Hormel to Buy Fontanini Italian Meats and Sausages for $425M

The Austin-based meats maker said it hopes to leverage Fontanini’s production facility, using it to produce its own products as well.
Âé¶¹Ó³» Corp. committed to a $425 million deal to acquire Fontanini Italian Meats and Sausages, a Chicago-based supplier of premium meat products such as pizza toppings and meatballs for the foodservice industry.
Jim Snee, chief executive of Austin-based Hormel said the deal would be complementary to both companies. “The addition of these products to our portfolio will allow us to accelerate growth for both Âé¶¹Ó³» food service and for Fontanini through expanded distribution and new customers,” he said.
